Shore's Beginnings:

After studying music at Boston's Berklee College of Music, Shore became a founding member of a musical group, Lighthouse, with whom he toured and recorded from 1969 to 1972. In 1975, Shore became the Music Director at Saturday Night Live. If you've got a keen eye, you can catch him appearing in several sketches.

Shore's Early Career:

While employed at Saturday Night Live, Shore began composing music for movies. It wasn't until his work with director, David Cronenberg that his music began catching the attention of colleagues and audience members. Shore's fruitful partnership and collaboration with Cronenberg has produced original film scores to twelve Cronenberg films, including ​The Fly, Naked Lunch, and Eastern Promises.

Shore's Middle Career:

During the 80s and 90s, Howard Shore composed scores for a multitude of films including Mrs. Doubtfire, Big, She-Devil, The Game, Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs, and Dogma.

Howard Shore 2000:

Shore's career and reputation catapulted to astronomical levels after the turn of the century. His work for The Lord of the Rings trilogy earned him two Oscars, two Golden Globes, and two ​Grammy awards. The soundtrack alone has sold over 6 million copies worldwide. Shore's score for The Aviator also earned him a Golden Globe in 2004.
